In a shocking move just this week management of the EASTWOOD MALL in Niles, Ohio has canceled the stock car show run by the TWIN STATE AUTO RACING CLUB for this week from THURS MARCH 11 until SUNDAY MARCH 14th.
No official reason for the cancellation has been given to the club by mall management and as of Monday AM all things were set for the club to have their show which consists of local area stock car, drag car, and go kart drivers to display their racing machines inside the mall for a weekend to help promote the local drivers and speedways. The mall has held the club's early spring show for over 30 years since 1973 and this was to be the first time in nearly 5 years that it has occurred inside the mall.
First year TWIN STATE president ED MILLER states, "The mall let us know at our meetings that when the contract was finished up, they would call me. They called me yesterday to confirm a mailing address for the club. I was to sign it either when they called me, or the night of the show. These were their words, not mine. We had contacted the mall a couple times the past few weeks, and they would "get hold of us when it was completed". I cannot control how the contracts are drafted, it was just for me to sign. We knew all the agreements as to possible carpet damage etc. and provided the insurance to cover it.The call came in at 4:54 today (Monday), two days before the show. It was not our decision, as I was finishing up loose ends on contracts just this morning . Pass the word if you can. I apologize to everyone who planned on attending, but we were given no reasoning for it"
Newsletter editor Jim Balentine Jr explains, " This is a shock to everyone. And this cancellation hurts EVERYONE. The drivers who have to hustle to get the cars ready for the show are out, the tracks who pass out season race schedules and track information are out, the fans who flock to the mall to see the cars are out, and most importantly the businesses inside the mall are out because they know that our show brings in more people into the mall 2nd only to Christmas season, and many of them need the "racing fan" business to keep going until the summer hits. Its a lose/lose situation for EVERYONE involved."
The club would like to thank mall show co-ordinator BRETT McCALL for his tireless efforts in getting the show back at Eastwood only to suffer this setback. The club would also like to thank local speedways Sharon and Mercer for their support of the show and all the club members, drivers, and fans who were looking forward to an exciting weekend.
Any professional comments regarding the cancellation can be directed to the Eastwood Mall office by calling 330-652-6980 or email email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org
Mercer Raceway Park will be having a stock car show at the Shenango Valley Mall in Hermitage, Pa next weekend and is welcoming cars from this canceled show into their show. Please call Vicki Emig or Mike Leone at 724-964-9300 for more info.
