Racing vs. the economy |

With the state of the economy and prices of fuel and groceries will you be buying racing shirts this season as you had in the past? Just curious what the fans
thoughts are. Will you attend less races?

Lora,
Hope you guys are able to come to 7 friday night, sure would be good to see the 5m back on raceway 7. As far as buying shirts etc, My money is deffinatly going to be tighter this year, so I probably will not buy as many as I have in the past. Tim |

The economy is definitely gonna hurt the local tracks from what I saw this weekend. There were about 250 people in the stands at Bradford Friday night. They
had 12 street stocks. Yesterday at AMR there were maybe 200 people in the stands and only 7 street stocks. For most people in this area, by the time you buy
gas for the week and groceries there just is not going to be the extra cash to attend races, movies or anything extra. I know people will say that they had a
good crowd at this track or that one but lets see if that continues throughout the summer. My guess is that it won't..........................

I was at Lernerville on Friday, and was quite surprised at the poor attendance level. Much less than I expected, especially for a 70*+ night in April.

I know that with the amount of racing shirts I already have, I'll just wear last year's shirts until they are unrecognizable. I'm sure that I
won't make it to as many races as I'd like to this year either.

It seems to be hit or miss. The crowd at the Lernerville WoO show and last night's UFO race seemed thin, but the Colossal had a record crowd and PPMS has
one of the bigger crowds I've seen there for a regular show last Saturday. The economy may help racing, as it can be a cheap night out for families without
going too far from home, compared to going on vacation somewhere.

i do appreciate your comments and feedback. I know we as a team evaluate things more closely before pulling out to the races especially with the cost of diesel
fuel.

I'll be staying close to home, most likely just stateline, only live 5 minutes from the track. Will hit MCR for some of their special shows if i can get
the same seats we had there last year LOL, Hint Hint Ken and Rich.

I am sure that we can reserve your seat, Chevy, as long as you bring your deck of cards! I don't know if we have room for seven of your friends, though!

Can't wait to see you Ernie. Of course I am looking forward to showing off my princess. She's really sweet and let me tell you, she loves the race
car.....All winter when she saw pics of it she would make an engine reving sound. She must have been paying attention last year at the races. I will wish for
good weather for Friday night.
Hoping to see some more old friends up that way on Friday! |

I think the economy is really going to have an effect on the Friday and Sunday tracks. Saturday nite tracks always get the best car counts and the best crowds
and are usually the #1 track in any given racing area. That is where the top drivers want to showcase their talents and get the best exposure for their
sponsors. Saturday tracks are most teams primary track so to speak. Fans know that and if they are only gonna see one race best bet is they will see the most
cars and the best teams racing on Saturday. If you look at the tracks that have closed in the past few years in western penna or western new york have any been
Saturday nite tracks? Some may have tried to move to Saturday and failed but were they ever really established as a Sat. track?
If a driver have the time and money and equipment they will venture out on Friday or Sunday and race those tracks but they will concentrate on the Saturday track most often. Yeah I know i'm generalizing a bit here, there are exceptions where someone chooses a Friday or Sunday track as their primary track but for the vast majority of teams its Saturday night. Just look at last weekend, Bradford and Allegany Mtn. both got their shows in with very poor car counts and only 10 or so cars raced at both tracks even with McKean being down due to rain. That is fewer then a third of the teams at either track even though they are very similar in size. I think we will see fewer drivers racing more then one night a week and those numbers will decrease as the season wears on and the price of fuel and everything else goes up. It may come down to just one track in each area surviving the entire season without enough $$$ from drivers and fans to go around to support 3 or 4 tracks in each area. I might be the grim reaper here but dont be surprised to see a few closed signs on the gates before Aurgust or September rolls around. |
